Things to do:
People often tell us that one of the most fun things their family did was to have a bonfire at the end of the day. We agree! At our family reunion we love to get together and sing and play guitars around the fire, while toasting marshmallows for s'mores. The lake seems to carry most of the noise away. Star watching and freighter spotting are fun too.
Another favorite activity is board games, especially with a giant bowl of popcorn and pop. So bring your chess, checkers, risk, scrabble, and monopoly games along! Also cards... Who can forget the high stakes penny poker tournaments, or the exciting games of "spoon" (sort of like musical chairs where you grab spoons from the middle of the table).
There are lots of things to do in Port Huron and Lexington. Many excellent parks in the area, unique shopping opportunities, golf, charter fishing, boat rentals, antique hunting... Lexington now has a theatre as well as delicious restaurants. (Smackwater's is my absolute favorite). The best part about Port Huron is the board walk along the St. Clair River. You often see freighters going through the channel.
View from the middle of our beach, south.A nice walk is to go past the 2 homes just south of us to the public access that Beach Road dead ends into (just past the red boat launch and the big concrete seawall).
Getting past the big seawall, one is at the public access which leads into "Orchard Beach". This is a pretty walk past little quaint cottages built mostly in the 1920's, and it leads to "Orchard Beach Park", which is a really tiny piece of public lakeshore. It's a nice way to take a relaxing scenic stroll, because the beach walking is limited due to all the darn dikes, groins, seawalls, boathouses.
