Lexington has a number of unique shops and restaurants.
The town sits on a slight hill, and the main shopping street extends down to 2
marinas, a public park and beach. One can enjoy lunch or just a latte at the
outdoor cafe, and look over the marina area.
Monarch butterflies have colors that alert predators that they taste bad. The
taste comes from the bitter, poisonous sap of the Milkweed plant that the
caterpillars eat. When I was a kid there were no lawns up here, just acres of
scrub grass and Milkweed plants. We loved to watch the seed pods burst open at
the end of the summer.
The marinas are protected by a ring of mamoth boulders, and it's fun to walk
along the marina's boardwalk, admiring the docked boats or watching those that
are coming or going.
Another end to a beautiful day. The colors of the lake change so much, depending
on the season, the time of day, and the weather. It's so restful to look out over
that expanse of blue...
Plenty of room to prepare and host a potluck or a snack, to eat inside, or on
the screened porch, or outside on the new patio facing the lake. Whether it's
good weather or bad, you'll have a lovely view of the lake which is only steps
away from the cottage.
At night, our family often likes to sit around the big kitchen table and play
cards or Monopoly or Risk or Scrabble. It's the only time all year that we
ever do this, and we never get tired of it each summer.
